The Tomb of Señora Amelia Goyri (Miraculous one) who died while giving birth in 1901.
Her grieving husband would visit her tomb several times daily, and when leaving, would knock with one of the tomb’s iron rings and back away (to see her as long as possible).
When it came her turn to be exhumed (for space reasons), legend holds that her body was miraculously intact (a sign of sanctity in the Catholic faith) and her baby, buried at her feet, was bound in her arms. So the tomb was sealed again and has remained like that until today.
As a result, La Milagrosa has become a widespread fertility symbol – today Cubans flock in pilgrimage to lay flowers, knock, and back away, hoping for luck with conception and good health.
