Hope Dawning
The beauty of this spectacular sunrise sets up cognitive dissonance amidst the framework of the traditionally ugly granite quarry. Part of creating his "Nature Revealed" series, the artist was locked in overnight, perched on the cliffs' edge, alone in pitch black, moonless night with stars to illuminate his imagination. He is continually torn by the tension between his passion as an environmentalist & his acceptance as a pragmatist. Whether in explosively active or toxically abandoned or environmentally repurposed pits, he strives to convey the splendors as bedrock is revealed. In some he accents raw viscera, as it's first exposed to our atmosphere - some on the ancient stone's recent aging through a continuum of transmutations via elemental forces & primal organisms spawning new life - some on the scars inflicted on our bedrock through the extraction process that cry out angrily - others they become part of fascinating & beautiful abstract tapestries of form, texture, pattern & color.
