Sacred Reflecting
There comes a moment on every major expedition, especially those to remote places where communication home is difficult/intermittent/impossible... A moment when one is physically, mentally, emotionally/spiritually tired. When one is lonely, even when surrounded by other great people. When thoughts about the meaning of life flood in. Our life. Our ancestors' lives. Our progeny's lives. Others "out there." The many "Why's." Deep doubts well up, mixed with deep creativity and longings. If one's struggle to stay present through the discomfort is successful, there can be an awakening. A merging. An expansion. A sense of peace and connectedness. Nature's signposts and talismans leading the way.

reflection is brief recording/ snapshot in water of the ice moment
Antarctica is called the “Crystal Desert.” Although water is seemingly every where, it is actually mostly locked up in the snow and ice. The humidity is extremely low, and the air, clean sans pollution, is preternaturally clear. It's a place that brings The continent is home to 90% of the world’s ice mass and 68% of all the fresh water (locked in the ice).
And then there are the bergs’ incredible forms, patterns, and textures – each uniquely “carved” by the waves as different parts of ice faces were exposed to (or protected from) the water. I’ve seen huge vertical arches that started as horizontal melt pools and ended up standing up in the sea, but only for brief moments (maybe weeks, days, or just hours). They appear to have been carved by human hands wielding chisels!
