Scaling Beauty (Scotia Sea, Antarctica, 2007)
The sun beams through a break in dark clouds above, spotlighting the white cliff face and the turquoise supporting it from beneath. Floating above unforgiving seas below us, how do our minds reconcile looking up hundreds of feet at the tabular iceberg's presence? The physical scale of the multi-mile long mass is beyond our experience. The time scale spanning the millennia climbs beyond our ken. The thousands of horizontal layers each echo past lives orders of magnitude beyond even the rings of the mighty sequoia. Where are we? Why?
