Rothko Incarnate 1
I ran by headlamp to embrace this section of the beach, bubbling with shellfish and crabs in the tidal wash zone. I lay down in the wetness of the cold fall predawn, getting as low in the shifting sands as I could. My tripod buried on the breakers' edges, I only rested the camera on top, ready to snatch the camera and stand up when bigger waves hit. This made holding the split neutral density filter (to hold the details, despite a wide range between shadows and bright areas) even more challenging than usual. For just over four minutes, the dawn was filtered by low clouds on the horizon and created an amazing array of blood orange and textures.
